The primary goal of assessment and evaluation is to enhance student learning. Through the assessment process, teachers gather essential information to identify individual student strengths and areas needing improvement and accordingly adjust instructional strategies and curriculum delivery.

As part of this process

Assessment involves providing ongoing, descriptive feedback to students to support their learning journey.

Evaluation measures the quality of student work against established criteria and involves assigning a grade or level that reflects student achievement.

Understanding Our Approach to Student Success

Principles of Effective Assessment and Evaluation

Teachers use professional judgment to align assessments with curriculum expectations. All curriculum expectations are taught, but only overall expectations are used as benchmarks for evaluation. The selected specific expectations support these evaluations.

To ensure fairness and accuracy, teachers apply strategies that

Assess both what students learn and how well they learn

Are based on achievement level descriptions outlined in the Ontario achievement chart

Are varied, timely, and offer multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning

Align with the learning activities, instructional goals, and student needs

Are equitable and inclusive, accommodating diverse learning styles

Support students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and those learning the language of instruction

Provide clear, constructive feedback for improvement

Encourage self-assessment and goal setting

Include student work samples as evidence of achievement

Are communicated transparently to students and parents at the start of the course and at key intervals

Final Grade Breakdown

Your final grade at EduVantage Academy is a true reflection of your academic journey. It’s a comprehensive breakdown that considers your performance across various assessments, ensuring a fair and transparent evaluation. This approach provides a clear picture of your mastery of course content and prepares you for future academic and career success.

70% – Based on ongoing evaluations throughout the course. This reflects the student’s most consistent level of achievement, with emphasis on recent evidence.

30% – Based on a final evaluation administered toward the end of the course (e.g., exam, culminating project, or performance).

A minimum grade of 50% is required to earn a credit for the course. Upon successful completion, the student will receive an official credit toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
